What Are You Thankful For?
November 18, 2010 No CommentsIt’s that time of year again; Thanksgiving! The time where we all gather around the dining room table with family and friends and stuff our faces with delicious food until we can’t eat anymore. However, this Thanksgiving will have a completely new meaning for me. I recently went on a trip with my college’s community service club to downtown Springfield. At first my friend and I thought we would simply be getting a tour just to show us the city we’d be living in for the next four (or more) years. We were completely mistaken. We were given a tour, however the meaning of this tour was so much more. The group leader showed us around Springfield, and informed us of the incredible crisis of homelessness within the city. It was such an eye opening experience, especially at the end when we purchased a full dinner for a couple that happened to be sleeping on the streets of Springfield. The look on their faces was priceless; true appreciation. What happened next, however, shocked me. They offered to share with us! A few of us took some French fries and we said that we’d see them later, and let them eat their meal. We drove by afterwards and saw them sharing with other people who were homeless. It was remarkable.
I am currently writing this on my Macbook Pro, while sitting in my college’s Campus Center, with heat and eating a snack, all of which I now appreciate so much more. It’s truly incredible to realize that the men and women who have become homeless have absolutely nothing! It most definitely has changed my perspective on life. This Thanksgiving, I will truly be thankful for everything I possess, including my friends and family!
My task for you is to think of one or more things you are thankful for and post them in the comments section down below! Also, why not show them just how thankful you are for them and give them the gift of candy! Chocolate Turkeys, Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins, or even a classic chocolate bar! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
